Our finished products carry their entire production journey and long-term quality in feel and appearance. The journey begins with Malin Bäccman and Fia Berglund, who together design and produce all of BB Sweden Hardware's products. Between them is a ongoing exchange of ideas and discussions about the development of new handles, knobs and hooks.
Malin and Fia have a natural and consistent approach to sustainability and the environment. The timeless and modern design, choice of materials and multifunctionality give the products a built-in long life. Production is all in Sweden for both high quality and so transports are kept to a minimum. The materials used are brass, stainless steel, aluminium and copper and all products are solid, consisting of the same metal all the way through. They age beautifully, but most of the materials can easily be restored to that newly produced condition if that is preferred. BB Sweden Hardware's products will last through generations and find new homes over and over again.
The next step in production takes place at one of our carefully selected and skilled manufacturers in Sweden. Depending on which model is being made the shape is turned, milled or water-jet cut from a raw material. Already at this stage, high demands are placed on the manufacturer's skill and accuracy.
The products are then sent on to a grinding and polishing company. First, the raw products are given a fresh surface by grinding in preparation for polishing or brushing. Then each individual product is polished or brushed. The polishing/brushing is done against a rotating polishing/brushing disc with wax adapted to the material. This is done by hand at a machine by skilled craftsmen. It is, among many other things, important to know how to hold, how to angle and how to press to remove just the right amount and not too much to achieve the right appearance.
If you look closely at our polished products, you can see extremely fine lines in the mirror-like surface. On the brushed ones, the traces of brushing are obvious. All this is the result of attentive and careful processing of each product. A human hand and a human eye are always present and this process gives a human dimension and a feeling of presence and satisfaction that only good craftsmanship can achieve.
When the product is finished, it is handed over for a meticulous quality control, if needed fine adjustments are done, then assembly, cleaning and packing. Each product is wiped clean and individually packed in protective plastic. Now the knob, handle or hook is ready to be packed properly for shipping to the customer and then mounted, for example, on a wardrobe, kitchen door, on a glass wall in a bathroom or in a hallway as a functional and beautiful wall hook.

Our products consist of solid unvarnished metals: brass, copper, stainless steel and aluminium. The types of surfaces we use are polished, brushed and black anodized.
The development of patina and ageing of the metal surface is retained when not using varnish and will provide a natural protection. Keeping the surface clean of varnish also means that the possibility of polishing and restoring the surface to mint condition remains, instead of an often unattractively aged and unevenly worn varnish with cracks and scratches. The aged varnished metal is very difficult to restore.
BB Sweden Hardware's brass and copper products are made of solid genuine unvarnished brass and copper. This provides a special feeling of weight, temperature and quality through both visible and tactile experience.
We do not varnish our brass and copper products, but allow the material to retain its ability to oxidise and age beautifully. This natural change protects the metal and extends its lifespan. The surface of brass and copper can darken, tarnish and develop interesting varied colour changes. This is a process that is influenced, for example, by oxygen in the air and pH value of the surroundings and you, when touching the fittings. Every time you open your kitchen cupboard or pull out your dresser drawer in the bedroom, you contribute to the beautiful changing.
If you instead prefer maintaining or restoring the new, bright feeling of mint condition it is relatively easy. Remove stains and fingerprints with a clean, slightly damp cloth with a little mild washing up liquid from time to time to help develop more even colour. Also, wipe dry if they gets wet. Or use the polishes you find here: our polishes to shine and restore to ”new”.
Be sure to use the right type of cleaner, as polished and brushed surfaces require different treatments. Avoid cleaning agents that are not intended for brass or copper as they may contain chemicals that can negatively affect the surface.
Polished brass is a classic material that never goes out of style. The beautiful gold-like colour and our high-gloss polished surface can elevate your interior design to a new level by small additions. Let the shiny surface cast soothing rays of sunshine from the wardrobe knobs in your bedroom or give your bathroom an extra sense of luxury and enhance the rest of your interior by using, for example, our beautiful glass door knobs for the shower.
Every now and then remove stains and fingerprints with a clean, slightly damp cloth with a little mild washing up liquid to help develop more even colour. Or use the polishes you find here: our polishes to shine and restore to ”new”.
Brushed brass has recently become increasingly popular and is both trendy and stylish. The fittings are brushed with a soft brushing that gives lines of fine grooves in the surface and creates a more matte finish. The matte surface often gives a brighter and cooler look than polished brass as it does not reflect as much. It works both as a soft rustic look and a warm, rawer, slightly more industrial style. Brushed brass is also wonderful in a light and harmonious Scandinavian style.
This finish is very practical as it minimizes the visibility of fingerprints and scratches while being stylish and elegant. For day to day care remove stains and fingerprints with a clean, slightly damp cloth with a little mild washing up liquid.
Use our PUTS to best renew and clean brushed brass. Regular polishes will polish the grooves down and produce a shinier and likely also an uneven look to the brushed surface.
Polished stainless steel has a high-gloss surface that gives a modern and elegant look. Stainless steel has excellent practical properties for kitchens and bath, any space will however be favourably adorned by polished stainless steel fittings. Together with materials such as wood and marble, for example, you can accomplish beautiful combinations. Polished stainless steel is a little warmer in tone than chrome and has a colour that is more similar to nickel.
We have chosen to work with beautiful highly polished stainless steel instead of surface treatments such as chrome and nickel to achieve a more environmentally friendly manufacturing process. In addition, stainless steel is very hard and durable and can be polished again if necessary, unlike surface treatments that can be very difficult to restore.
Polished stainless steel fittings are easy to maintain and clean. Wipe with a clean, slightly damp cloth and a little mild washing up liquid every now and then. To shine the surface use our polishing and cleaning products: our polishes.
Brushed stainless steel handles and knobs are a stylish and durable alternative that is suitable for both private and public environments. Stainless steel is not only known for its durability but also for a minimalistic and modern. Brushed stainless steel has a matte surface that is excellent in combination with materials such as wood, marble and glass.

Our brushed aluminium is a light silver-coloured brushed surface with a soft feel. The tone is cooler and lighter than that of stainless steel. Brushed aluminium fittings are harmonious and soft in a light interior and stylish contrasts can be achieved against darker surfaces. The brushed aluminium absorbs light in a beautiful way and is lovely to combine with colours.
Aluminium works well in kitchens and bathrooms with the property of not being affected by the moisture in these environments. However, it is good to avoid too much contact with salt and acid.
Brushed aluminium fittings are easy to maintain and clean, wipe with a clean and slightly damp cloth and a little mild washing up liquid from time to time.
Black handles can add a bold and modern contrasting expression in brighter environments, but also a softer, more sober expression against darker surfaces. Try black hooks on a light wall in the hallway or explore the possibilities with our mix fittings in the Line, Line Big and Kokeshi series, where you combine two of our materials in a knob, hook or handle of your own choice. For example, black with stainless steel or black with brass is incredibly stylish and can really be both unique, playful and elegant.
Anodizing is a method that uses electric current to change the outer layer of the aluminium rather than just covering the outside and the surface becomes protected. Before we anodize our aluminium knobs, hooks and handles with black colour, we give them the same brushed surface as on our other brushed fittings. The brushed surface is still visible after the anodizing and gives a stylish extra dimension to the black surface.
Black anodized fittings are easy to maintain and clean, wipe with a clean and slightly damp cloth and a little mild washing up liquid every now and then.
